Hypothalamic and pituitary peptides of the reproductive axis. The compounds here act at defined receptors, and most of them are either natural hormone sequences or close analogues of one.
Two things follow from that and shape the entries. The first is that several members of this group have long regulatory histories as pharmaceutical products, in defined indications, which makes the distinction between an approved product and research-grade material particularly easy to blur and particularly important to keep. An approval attaches to a manufactured product, its labelling and its indication.
The second is that this axis is regulated by feedback, so the published literature frequently measures a downstream hormone rather than a clinical outcome. Entries report what was measured.

- Kisspeptin-10Kisspeptin-10 is the C-terminal decapeptide of the KISS1 gene product — residues 112 to 121, amidated — and an agonist at the kisspeptin receptor KISS1R. It is an endogenous peptide fragment used as a physiological probe of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, and is not approved by the FDA for any indication.
- Kisspeptin-54Kisspeptin-54 is the major circulating isoform of kisspeptin in humans, a 54-residue product of the KISS1 gene and an agonist at the KISS1R receptor. It has been studied in human reproductive physiology and as a trigger for oocyte maturation in in vitro fertilisation, and it is not approved by the FDA for any indication.
- GonadorelinGonadorelin is gonadotropin-releasing hormone itself — the ten-residue hypothalamic hormone whose sequence was determined in 1971 — rather than an analogue of it. Finished products containing it are approved for pituitary function testing, for pulsatile use in a specialist endocrine indication, and in veterinary reproduction.
- TriptorelinTriptorelin is a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue differing from the natural hormone at one residue. Depot products containing it are approved medicines used to suppress the reproductive axis, and that suppression is produced by sustained agonist exposure rather than by blockade.
- OxytocinOxytocin is a cyclic nine-residue hormone produced in the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary. Injectable products containing it are approved medicines for obstetric use, and a large separate research literature has examined intranasal administration in behavioural and psychiatric conditions.
